The commission tasked with probing issues relating to the introduction of a national minimum wage has recommended that government implement such a wage at R3500 per month.

This could impact employers view on casual and shift workers, to the detriment of both class of workers. Employers might cut down on offering formal employment. For example, households might look to getting stuck into doing their own chores as the minimum wage to employ helpers is set high.
